Corey Hawkes is a Mainer, born and raised in Harpswell. Corey grew up in a fishing family and still fishes successfully to this day. He lives in Cundy’s Harbor, and visits his mother Sue Hawkes regularly because they are close and continue to enjoy each other’s company. Corey has a boisterous family, but he is boisterous himself, so they are always able to be honest and real with each other.
Corey contributes to his community by attending town meetings and listening carefully to his elders because he believes they know what is right based on their experience. Corey takes an interest in, and respects the new fishing regulations, despite not always agreeing with them.
Interview and story by Timothy Griffin at Harpswell Coastal Academy, 2016, in collaboration with the Holbrook Community Foundation and Galen Koch.
