Brian Soper and his wife, Julie, have been fishing since a young age. They own a wharf and multiple businesses that depend on a stable fishing industry. At one time Brian and Julie depended heavily on the sea urchin industry. At this time you can no longer obtain a sea urchin license in the state of Maine.
In this interview, Brian and Julie talk about how a once “inexhaustible amount of sea urchins” has disappeared in just their lifetime.
Interview and story by Emily Carr at Harpswell Coastal Academy, 2016, in collaboration with the Holbrook Community Foundation and Galen Koch.
