Alicia Heyburn is a fifth generation owner of Little Yarmouth Island, where she and her family spend their summers. The island is a special place to connect with past generations, so it should come as no surprise that the island is under a conservation easement. Not only does this important agreement make a promise about not changing the island’s appearance, but also reinforces the many family rituals that Alicia grew up with. In this story Alicia tells us how her husband had to prove his worth to her father before he proposed to her.
